Israeli warplanes have destroyed a the Islamic University of Gaza, and at this time the death toll in unknown, but expected to be high.

Hours before the strike on the university other attacks on Gaza left over 25 people dead and yesterday Israeli strikes on Rafah left over 140 Palestinians dead.

The re-escalation of the violence came after Israel ended a 72 hour humanitarian ceasefire, only hours after it began.

The Palestinian death toll since the Israeli incursion enters its 25th day has reached 1,650, with 9,000 people injured. Most of the casualties have been civilians, including a large number of women and children. 

The new attacks of the Israeli Defense Force have been premised on that they were looking for an abducted soldier but Hamas said on Saturday it had no clear indication on the whereabouts of an Israeli soldier that Israel has accused it of abducting in the Gaza Strip, adding he may have been killed during an ambush. 

AP reporters have also reported airstrikes along the Egypt-Gaza border, as well as tank shelling.

Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to keep attacking Gaza and warned Hamas they would "bear the consequences of their actions".

Further, in a statement from his office he said, “Israel will take all necessary steps against those who call for our destruction and perpetrate terrorism against our citizens.”
